- Ethernet Extension—Extends 10/100
Base-TX Ethernet distances 1 mile using 2-wire 24 AWG unconditioned
- Seamlessly Connect and Extend the
LAN—802.3 10/100Base-TX LAN connection via built-in shielded RJ-45
- CopperLink 2-Wire Connection—Easy
2-wire CopperLink connection via built-in RJ-45 port.
- Switch Selectable—Asymmetrical or
Symmetrical line rates up to 15 Mbps!
- Dual Auto-sensing Full-Duplex
Ethernet—Auto 10 or 100Base-T and full or half-duplex Ethernet
- Transparent LAN Bridging—Passes higher
layer protocols and supports 802.1Q VLAN tagging.
- Automatic Learning, Aging, and Filtering—Only
allows packets with addresses outside the LAN to be forwarded.
Model 2151 User
The 2151 CopperLink modems provide high-speed LAN connections
between peered Ethernet LANs, remote PC’s, or any other network enabled
pairs, one Model 2151 is configured as the (L) Local unit located at one end of
the LAN extension and the other Model 2151 is configured as the (R) Remote unit
at the other end. The Model 2151 is configured as a L or R via the switch on the
bottom of the unit. These units can automatically forward LAN broadcasts,
multicasts, and frames across a 2-wire voice-grade twisted-pair link. The data
is passed transparently (unmodified) through the 2151s. The 2151s automatically
add and delete MAC addresses, only passing packets across the CopperLINK link
that are meant for the remote peered LAN.
These multi-rate Ethernet Extenders are ideal for bridging
Ethernet spans inside buildings that are beyond the 328-foot (100-meter)
distance limit of Ethernet.

COPPERLINK LINE RATE AND COPPERLINK DISTANCE
•Line Rate: 15/15 Mbps, upstream/downstream. Additional five line rates
are available via DIP switch settings.
•Distance: 5,750 ft (1.7 km) at 1 Mbps upstream/4 Mbps downstream
Note Distances depend on selected line rate and line conditions. See
Appendix D on page 19 for details.
