The AME51 Media Converter is
a standalone physical layer device that converts between 10/100BaseT(X)
and 100BaseFX segments of the same network. The converter supports Link
Fault Pass-Through for easily tracing network link failures, and the LFP
function enhances the integrity and conformity of TP-Fiber linking to
make the network easier to maintain. AME51 is powered by an external
power adaptor or USB port on the hosting device (e.g., PC or NB). The
option of using USB port power, which is unique to AME51 for products of
this type, offers greater flexibility when deploying AME51 in the field.
Link Fault Pass-Through
The Link Fault Pass-Through feature overcomes a
problem encountered when using traditional media converters. The problem
is this. When one side of the link fails, the other side continues
transmitting packets, and then waits for a response that never arrives
from the disconnected side.
What AME51 does is force the link to shut down as soon as it notices that
the other link has failed, giving the application software a chance to
react to the situation. |
