TinyRouter and
TinyRouter-4W |
TinyRouter offers a choice of WAN interfaces, including
V.24, V.35, V.36, X.21, RS-530 or a built-in fiber optic modem. The WAN link
operates transparently in simplex, half duplex or full duplex modes.
TinyRouter-4W extends the LAN over 4-wire to 1300m (4265 ft) when operating at 5
Mbps and up to 500m (1640 ft) when operating at 10 Mbps. Variable link speeds up
to 10 Mbps are supported transparently. Link speeds may be adjusted “on-the-fly”
without any effect on the TinyRouter or TinyRouter-4W. In addition, they provide
hardware-based traffic throughput control.

TinyRouter and TinyRouter-4W are high performance,
miniature IP routers. Their small size and low cost make them ideal for
cost-sensitive routing applications or as LAN extenders or segmenters over
bit-stream type infrastructures.
TinyRouter and TinyRouter-4W work by taking each Ethernet frame from the LAN
and determining whether or not the IP packet is destined for the IP network on
the Ethernet LAN. If not, they forward the packet to the WAN link. IP packets
received on the WAN are automatically forwarded to the LAN if the IP network
matches.
The devices include hardware filters that handle all filtering operations at
wire speed from both LAN-to-WAN and WAN-to-LAN, without dropping a single
packet. Routing is performed at the maximum rate of 30,000 frames per second
(wire speed). The buffer can hold 256 full-sized frames with a throughput
latency of one frame.
TinyRouter and TinyRouter-4W are available with 10Base5 (AUI) or 10BaseT (UTP)
interfaces. The 10BaseT interface can also operate in full duplex Ethernet
applications.
