Superior Performance on
Switched Network or Private Line Modem
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS Five-speed operation and strict compliance with multiple standards provide maximum applications flexibility Compatible with CCITT V.25 bis and "AT" command sets for complete auto-dial, auto-answer and redial capabilities Optional Feature Enhancement Modules provide X.25 packet network access, V.42 compatible error correction and data compression for easy upgrading of network capabilities |
DESCRIPTION
The DataComm 596 is a full featured, high performance modem for switched network or 2/4-wire private line operation, providing full duplex transmission of both synchronous and asynchronous data. The modem's five-speed functionality and compatibility with multiple CCITT and Bell standards make it exceptionally versatile in network onerations.
FLEXIBLE DIALING FEATURES
The DataComm 596 provides complete auto-dial, auto-answer and redial capabilities. In addition to pulse and tone dialing, up to 10 telephone numbers (36 characters each) may be stored within the modem for retrieval as needed. Calls can be initiated using de facto industry standard AT commands, or CCITT V.25 bis synchronous or asynchronous command formats. The DataComm 596 also supports manual dial and answer procedures, as well as front panel initiated calling.
X.25 AND ERROR CONTROL OPTIONS
The modem may be equipped with an optional plug-in module for X.25 Level 3 (full asynchronous PAD) packet network ac-
cess for multi-host, multi-session applications. This module supports default settings for GDC point-to-point operations, providing both improved throughput and error free operation. In applications where direct access to X.25 networks is not required, alternative plug-in modules can be used for CCITT V.42 compatible error control (MNP* Class 4) and data compression (MNP Class 5).
HIGHEST RELIABILITY
The DataComm 596 incorporates VLSI technology to achieve extremely high reliability. For example, the modem draws a maximum of only 10 watts power, resulting in less heat and longer component life. As the most power-efficient modem in its class, the DataComm 596 can therefore save you even more in operating expenses.
KEEP YOUR OPTIONS OPEN
The DataComm 596 comes with modem options already set to satisfy most application needs. Custom configuration by the user may be performed exclusively through software, using de facto industry standard AT commands; exclusively with hard-
ware switch settings; or with a combination of both methods. While soft optioning may be most convenient for smaller installations, large users Eke telephone companies and service bureaus prefer hard optioning because it minimizes training needs and simplifies maintenance/ replacement procedures. A combination of software and hardware optioning is preferred in many modem pooling applications because it permits on-line changes by users while providing protection against unauthorized access.
POWERFUL DIAGNOSTICS
A comprehensive array of diagnostic tests provides accurate detection of system faults and helps you restore service quickly. These include ANAL00118 (Analog Loopback/V.54 Loop 3), Digital Loopback (V.54 Loop 2), Remote Digital Loopback (V.54 Remote Loop 2) and Self-Test. All tests may be initiated with front panel switches and monitored through easy-to-read LED displays. ANALOOP and RDL may also be initiated through the terminal equipment QTE) interface under the control of your communications software.
